Been wondering about this book right from the start of the series. It's been a 'long journey'. 20 years have passed in New Atlantis. And it wasn't until a few days ago that I picked it up. Was very curious to see how the hero had survived, how he would react to the changes in his world and coming face to face with ... well, he's own face and body on another man.
It all came together pretty good, I think.
I liked the way he and heroine met and their bond was discovered. I liked the situation he found himself in when he returned home; no other old citizen from New Atlantis had had to face the challenges he had before him. His world changed drastically, but not him. And he was not perfect. He was confused and stubborn, and it showed in his actions, making him easier to relate to.
On top of all that he still had to deal with the mystery and danger surrounding the heroine.
The paradoxes and intricacies of time-travelling and the power that comes with it play a major role in the story and are perfectly shown in a well-orchestrated series of events. Each piece fits beautifully together and everything makes sense.
Perfect for any fan of time-travel stories, I think.
And the end? Loved it. Found it almost poetic. And still keep wondering who was ultimately responsible for it.
On a side note:
the story can be perfectly understood all by itself. But I recommend reading the previous books in the series (at least the first one - Nine Lives). It will emphasize the changes Hakon found when he returned home and will definitely take this story to another level. Besides, the series is simply fantastic! It would be a shame not to discover the other characters' personal stories.

Second Chance New Atlantis Time Travel Romance Book 9 edition by Nhys Glover Romance eBooks Reviews
Really liked this story. Complicated, but still believable given the time travel premise the story is built on. Off to read 10!
This is a favorite of mine in the New Atlantis Time Travel series. Hakom was talked about several times in other books and I was so glad to read the story of him and his key. I recommend this book and I will continue to read the rest of the books in this series.
It is best to read the previous books but not absolutely necessary. Like some of the books in this series, the emphasis is on the romance and sex taking place in the year 2350. The hero has a lot of personal insecurities that leads to misunderstandings and angst. The drama taking place back in 1986 takes a back seat to that. This guy was completely and obsessively in love with a stranger from the moment he sees her in an elevator. There were a couple of long hot sex scenes. He takes her to the future where she has no problem accepting and adapting to the future. I do like the series. Some stories are better than others. This one was not especially interesting.
I don't know how many feathers Nhys has in her hat, but she has once again produced an exciting and entertaining story, one that I enjoyed immensely, so I'll give her one more to add to her collection.
This is our ninth visit to the time of New Atlantis; I was going to say we go back in time to where we were first introduced to this amazing civilisation, but really, this IS time travel we're talking about and travelling backwards and forwards throughout time is what these books are all about, lol.
Mystery and international intrigue fill this book, along with Nhys' own brand of relationships and romance. In 1986, our heroine, Bree Sanderson doesn't even realise she is need of rescuing until it is too late, but thankfully she finds a friend and lover in Hakon Fjordane from New Atlantis who is completely bowled over by her and would do everything he can to help her...
...including die for her, if necessary.
On a more personal note, if you enjoy Nhys Glovers stories, send her an email and let her know. She's an Aussie living away from home and loves to hear from those of us living in the land down under. I know because that's exactly what I did after reading my first of her novels The Way Home. I didn't even know she was an Aussie at that point. But I'm pretty sure she'd love to hear what people think of her books, no matter where in the world they live.

He thought he was only gone for a short time, everyone else says it was twenty years! Who is right?
What or WHO is a Key? To find out you need to read Second Chance, the 9th book of this great series! I'm ready for book 10!
Enjoyed this story. I have read many others by the same author. Her characters show that human nature, feelings, and strong emotions does not change even in a future utopia. Love still overcomes obstacles and opposites do attract.
I have loved this series and would recommend it to anyone into sfr. For some reason I didn't feel drawn to this book from the beginning and kept skipping it. But then I got frustrated with some of the badly written and edited books I had downloaded & thought I'd give this a go. Unfortunately my instincts were right and this book was a let down! It just wasn't as fast paced as the previous books neither did it have as good a story.
The characters just didn't gel for me. I was left feeling disappointed.
It was well written and edited which is one of the reasons I finished it.
I really recommend you read the earlier books in order and I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
Thankfully I know that the book after this is really good so I'll continue with the series.
