The story starts with this question and then veers into the supernatural and lost me immediately. I love a good "suspend your belief" story; however, what I learn about Evangeline befuddled me rather than enticed me. I trudged onward to see if I would reach understanding later in the book. Truthfully, I did come to understand the situation with more clarity, but I just didn't care. None of the characters held me and when I finished reading I was merely relieved.

Maybe this just wasn't the book for me. I received it for free so it was a gamble I was willing to take, but I won't be purchasing the sequel.

Eternal Starling is the first book in the Emblem of Eternity by Angela Corbett. This book' cover lured me in and the fantastic story kept me glued to my tablet. Evie is a strong and intelligent female lead character. She is given so much information about herself and her history, plus she has too amazing guys trying to win her heart. This isn't your run of the mill love triangle. I usually have a clear favorite, and though I'm leaning towards Emil, either guy would be a perfect choice for Evie. There is so much history within the world building, and it's told so well, I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. Evie has so much more to learn about herself and those around her. I'm anxious to learn it all right along with her.
One of my favorite things about reading and reviewing books is discovering talented new authors. Angela Corbett definitely makes that list with her new novel Eternal Starling, the first novel in her new paranormal romance series Emblem of Eternity. It was sensational! I am actually kind of shocked by how much I liked this book. My first thought after finishing Eternal Starling was "MORE PLEASE!!" I have already stalked Ms. Corbett's blog and her goodreads.com page, but unfortunately I have not found any information about the next book in the series. I will keep you posted with the findings from my stalking...

This young adult novel was about Evie Starling, Alex Night, and Emil Stone. I know that a lot of people are sick of love triangles. Honestly, I am starting to get sick of them too. However, I really enjoyed Evie, Alex, and Emil's story because it was unique, unpredictable, and entertaining.

One of my favorite aspects of this novel was that the three main characters have a history together. Their shared past made their current situation unique and more interesting. I also really appreciated that there wasn't necessarily a right choice and a wrong choice.

At times, it appears that one choice is the obvious one, but the more and more you learn about the characters the less and less convinced you become. At this point, I am extremely conflicted, and I honestly don't know which guy is the better choice. Instead of being annoyed with Evie for not being able to make a decision, I am able to sympathize with her. If I can't choose between Alex and Emil, how is she supposed to?

I absolutely loved Evie's character. She rocks out to Wicked the musical, she hates waking up early but loves how it gives her an excuse to drink sugary cream-filled coffee, she doesn't believe in scales - she judges her weight by how her clothes fit her, she likes to ride four-wheelers, etc. The more and more I discovered about Evie the more and more I squealed, "OMG, me too!!" On top of that, Evie is hilarious. Her inner dialogue cracked me up.

"In my current, frazzled state of mind, I rationalized that if Loser Luke hadn't cheated on me, I wouldn't have left the safety of my parents' Montana home, wouldn't have decided to go hiking in the unfamiliar mountains of Black Canyon, and wouldn't be lost. In an impressive feat of deflected responsibility, I convinced myself Luke was at least somewhat accountable for my impending death. Blaming him made the thought of dying much easier to handle. If I'd had a pen on me, I would have written a note implicating him so that when the rescue crews found my frozen body, they'd know who to arrest." - Evie lost in the mountains, Chapter One

I gave Eternal Starling by Angela Corbett 4 STARS. This original, fast-paced paranormal romance novel is perfect for young adults. It's hilarious, romantic, and action-packed, and the characters are likeable and well-developed. I strongly recommend this novel.

There were so many things I loved about this book that I don't even know where to start. I loved the cover, and I guess at first only bought it because of it, but fortunately Eternal Starling wasn't one of those books with a pretty cover and awful plot. The story also got me deliriously addicted.

Evie just moved to Gunnison, Colorado. She always had bad luck in relationships, and after a specially bad one she decides to go to college in another city. She enjoys hiking and one day she gets lost, but of course she is found by none other than a beautiful boy. Evie falls almost instantly in love with Alex and she can't help but think he feels somehow familiar to her. They start dating, but soon after that they break-up (I won't tell you what happens, you have to read the book!). Then Emil comes along. Another gorgeous boy, who also claims to be her soulmate. But I have to say I had a hard time getting past the instant romance. Everything went so fast from the moment Evie met Alex (by the way it happened in chapter one!)

I find it so rare to read a book, in which both male characters in a love triangle are lovable. Emil actually was in my black list when he came along, but now after finishing the book I can't choose! I totally understand Evie's struggle to pick one of them. And she can't pick one of them for centuries, so you get that it really is kind of difficult to pick one. They are both gorgeous, sweet and funny but also jealous of one another. Who will Evie pick? Unfortunately we will have to wait for the sequel. It is a trilogy by the way )

Evie was also a *awesome* main character. She is pretty independent, has a 1966 GT Ford Mustang (I love Mustangs) and she totally can hold her own. She had a hard time believing in that soul mate stuff at first, but then accepted it not making a lot of drama. Her parents were really nice, and I really enjoyed getting to know them a bit better. I thought they would only appear as background characters. And when both Emil and Alex turn up in their family trip, well that was a situation I would not want to be in! But her parents supported her and took it easy when both boys appeared.

Evie's friends Jas and Zach were also great characters. They were a nice change from the whole romantic side of the book. Zach was funny and so sweet to Evie, and Jas was such a great friend! I had to laugh every time she acted like my best friend would in that situation.

I really really enjoyed reading this book. Sure it had some flaws, but they were easy to forget after reading the awesomeness of this book! The plot was different from many soul mate stories and I found it refreshing that it was difficult to decide who was better between Alex and Emil. I can't recommend this book enough and can't wait for the next one!
